What it is: Tamales at Orale!
Reaction: A week back, Monday editor John Threfal hipped me to a new Mexican space downtown. That made me giddy, but that giddiness went through the roof as I approached Orale for the first time and saw they were advertising tamales. The giddy meter continued to rise after I had ordered a couple of tamales and saw they were stocking Jarritos Tamarind Soda, something I usually have to wait until I'm in the U.S. to enjoy. For the tamales, I opted for two pollo options, one with salsa verde and the other with mole. The chicken in both was tender and plentiful and where the verde was quite subtle, the mole was sweet and smokey. All these excellent tastes were compounded even more by the fact Orale has a lovely and sunny sub street patio. So other than the sound of the occasional car zipping by, with a little imagination, you can pretend you're enjoying your excellent lunch in some lovely Mexican locale.
Would I try it again: I'll certainly be saying "hola" again to this great new lunch and dinner destination
